By Belize Live News Staff: A routine stop on the Belize Corozal Road ended with a criminal charge for a 25 year old Orange Walk man.
Police say the Quick Response Team was on mobile patrol around 11:40pm on Wednesday when officers spotted a man on a red BMX bike heading toward YiYi store, hood up, coming from the direction of Central Park.
An officer stopped him and told him a search would be conducted for drugs, firearms or ammunition.
What turned up instead was a kitchen knife tucked into the front of his sweater.
Asked about it, he told police it was for his personal protection.
At the station, officers measured the cutting blade at eight inches. The knife was bagged, labelled and sealed with evidence tape in his presence.
Darnell Valentine, a construction worker of Half Moon Key, was charged with possession of article with blade that same night.
He chose to remain silent.
