By Belize Live News Staff: The call came in at 4 in the morning.
A farmer’s stepfather, who lives on the property as watchman, phoned to say three men had entered the farm in the Millers Bight area near Carmelita Village. One of them had pointed a firearm at him. His hands and feet were tied.
By the time the farmer got there, the damage was done.
A sheep lay motionless on the road, its throat cut. Three more were at the entrance to the farm, the same way.
Then came the count. Thirty nine sheep gone, valued at $950 each. That is $34,200 in livestock taken in a single night.
They also cleared out the house on the property, taking a hand spotlight, a hammock and an impact tool set.
Total loss, $35,540.
Moving 39 sheep is not a quiet operation. Somebody saw a vehicle. Somebody heard something.
Police have photographed the scene and one man is wanted.
Farm theft on this scale is a serious blow to a working operation.
