BDF workshop tackles stress, traumatic events and suicide prevention

BDF workshop tackles stress, traumatic events and suicide prevention

By Belize Live News Staff: Soldiers deal with things most people never have to, and the Belize Defence Force is building capacity inside its ranks to handle that.

Twenty one BDF personnel have completed the Trauma Behavioral Train the Trainer Workshop 01/26, organised by the BDF Wellness Center and led by five instructors from the Louisiana National Guard.

The subject matter was practical and direct. Financial readiness, stress management, traumatic events and suicide prevention.

The train the trainer approach matters here. Rather than bringing in outside help each time, the force now has twenty one people who can carry this knowledge forward and pass it to their colleagues.

The training also looked at the families behind the uniform, and how to reduce the impact these pressures have at home.

Mental health support within uniformed services has become a growing focus regionally, and this workshop puts Belize in step with that.

Good move by the BDF.
