By Belize Live News Staff: Belize Electricity Limited is warning that parts of the country may lose power on Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 5pm.
The reason sits across the border. BEL says Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Electricidad may need to curtail power due to high demand on the Mexican side.
That is the same dependency that caused Tuesday night’s countrywide blackout, when a loss of CFE supply pushed the system into collapse.
Load shedding is the deliberate reduction of load to match available generation, done by disconnecting feeders or sections of feeders to prevent the whole system from failing.
Areas on the tentative list include portions of San Pedro Town, large sections of Belize City including Port Loyola, Lake Independence, Kings Park and Newtown Barracks, and parts of the Corozal District including the Free Zone.
BEL stresses that the schedule is tentative and based on demand and generation projections that can change quickly.
Updates are available through the BEL 24-7 app.
