“Let’s not be distracted,” Panton says of UDP departures

Tracy Panton

By Belize Live News Staff: The Leader of the Opposition is pushing back on the idea that two senior resignations point to trouble inside the United Democratic Party.

Juliet Thimbriel left the post of national campaign manager. Audrey Wallace left the chair of the public relations committee. Both went in the space of two weeks, with municipal elections eight months out.

Tracy Panton says the reasons were personal and professional, not political.

“Both Ms. Audrey Wallace and Ms. Juliet Thimbriel are valuable members of the UDP,” she said, describing both as continuing contributors to the party’s rebuilding.

Neither has left the fold, according to Panton. She said she would be on Wave Radio with Thimbriel the next morning, and credited her with leading investigative work on what Panton called the misuse of the public purse.

She closed with a warning about the narrative itself.

“Let’s not be distracted by those whose only intention is to try and create disruption or who try to undermine the efforts of this party to rebuild, to stand on its strongest leg and to be ready to govern this country whenever the next elections are called.”
