Belize condemns West Bank attacks as Palestinian displacement surges

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has reaffirmed its position that the Israeli occupation of and settlements in Palestinian territory are unlawful and must end.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry pointed to the July 2024 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice as the basis for that position.

The Government also reaffirmed its support for the New York Declaration and for what it described as a just and lasting peace in which a sovereign and viable State of Palestine exists alongside Israel in peace and security.

Belize is calling on the international community to take concrete and coordinated action to protect Palestinian civilians and to ensure accountability for violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The Government said it will continue raising these concerns within the United Nations system.

“Belize stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people,” the statement reads, calling for a resolution of the conflict grounded in international law, justice, and mutual security.

Belize has consistently taken this position at the UN in recent years. The country established diplomatic relations with the State of Palestine in 2011 and has voted in favour of Palestinian representation at the world body.
