By Belize Live News Staff: The weather is keeping its end of the bargain, Belize. Yesterday’s guidance said rain in the morning, shopping in the afternoon, and the tropical wave crossing the country today is following the script to the letter.
The National Meteorological Service reports the wave delivering its outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms around the country through the morning hours, under cloudy skies with sunny breaks poking through. By afternoon, the activity shrinks to isolated, and the first GST-free Saturday of the month gets its drier window just as the stores fill up. Tonight stays mostly quiet, with the southern districts holding a medium chance of a few more showers, as southern tradition demands.
The one firm caution belongs to the water. A Small Craft Caution flies today, gusty winds and locally rough seas near the heavy showers, with easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots and waves running a healthy 4 to 7 feet. The cayes runs and fishing trips that can wait for Sunday should wait for Sunday.
The temperatures behave themselves, 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) inland easing to 74 (23 Celsius), the coast at 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) with a low of 82 (28 Celsius), and the hills comfortable at 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius), cooling to 68 (20 Celsius).
The tropics stay generously boring, no cyclone formation expected over the region in the next 48 hours, and the distant Atlantic systems remain someone else’s weather entirely.
And the reward for weathering the morning: Sunday turns generally fair with only isolated showers, the wave gone east and the weekend’s second half handed over to sunshine, yard work, river swims, and recovery from today’s tax-free hauls.
So time it right, Belize. Let the morning outbreaks pass over the coffee, hit the stores after lunch, and keep the receipts as proof the forecast and the savings both delivered.
