By Belize Live News Staff: Monday arrives wearing the weekend’s sunshine, and it is the last full day of it for a little while. Belize’s skies stay mostly sunny and dry through the workday, but tonight the pattern turns, and by Tuesday, the whole map trades its sun icons for clouds.
The National Meteorological Service reports relatively dry conditions holding today, with nothing more than isolated showers or thunderstorms developing under the bright skies. The shift begins after dark: cloudy spells build tonight, a few showers and thunderstorms visit the south first, and after midnight the wet weather spreads its reach to most areas of the country.
The heat makes the most of its stage time. Inland communities bake at 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius) before easing to 74 (23 Celsius) overnight. The coast tops out at 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) with a low of 81 (27 Celsius), while the hills hold steady at 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius), cooling to 68 (20 Celsius). Water bottles and shade breaks remain the Monday essentials.
Boaters should read the water with care, easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots, choppy seas, and waves running 3 to 5 feet, manageable conditions that will turn less friendly near tonight’s building showers.
The steady comfort holds beneath it all: no tropical cyclone formation is expected in the region over the next 48 hours. This is the season’s routine breathing, moisture in, moisture out, with nothing organized behind it.
Tuesday brings the payoff of tonight’s turn, generally cloudy skies with a few showers and thunderstorms over most areas, the kind of day that finally waters the yards the dry week left thirsty. The laundry strategy writes itself: today is the drying day, tomorrow is not.
