Cave tubing is back: Nohoch Che'en opens this morning

By Belize Live News Staff: Grab the tubes, the water has given the all-clear, mostly. The Institute of Archaeology announced that Nohoch Che’en Cave reopens for activities at 9:00 a.m. today, ending the closure that high water levels forced over the weekend.

The advisory, issued at 5:35 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, restores one of Belize’s most popular visitor experiences, the cave tubing runs of the Caves Branch area, just in time for the day’s bookings.

The reopening carries an important condition, though. The Institute is strongly advising tour operators and guides to remain highly vigilant and cautious of changing water conditions while conducting tours. With a tropical wave currently over the country and showers forecast to increase through the morning, river levels can shift quickly, and the professionals on the water will need to keep their judgment sharp.

There is more good news across the board: all other archaeological reserves remain open for visitation, so the country’s heritage sites are fully back online.

The Institute of Archaeology will keep monitoring conditions and promises further updates as necessary.

For visitors, the practical advice is simple, check in with your tour operator on timing, pack for some rain, and enjoy one of the great Belizean adventures responsibly.
