Umbrella morning: rain increases across Belize

Rain

By Belize Live News Staff: The umbrellas get another workout today, as a tropical wave parked directly over Belize spreads showers and thunderstorms across the country through the morning hours.

The National Meteorological Service reports that partly cloudy skies will turn mostly cloudy this morning, with rain that starts isolated but gradually increases nationwide as the morning progresses. The good news comes later: showers and thunderstorms decrease this evening and become generally isolated tonight, with only the south likely to hold onto a few showers and isolated thunderstorms after dark.

Out on the water, conditions demand respect. A small craft caution is in effect, warning of gusty winds and rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms. Easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots will gust higher at times, with moderate to rough seas and waves running 4 to 7 feet, so small craft operators should exercise real caution.

Despite the clouds, the warmth holds. Inland areas top out at 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius) before falling to 74 (23 Celsius). The coast reaches 87 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) with a low of 80 (27 Celsius), while the hills stay noticeably cooler, peaking at 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 Celsius) and dipping to a crisp 67 (19 Celsius).

The steady reassurance continues in the tropics, with no tropical cyclone formation expected anywhere in the region over the next 48 hours.

Thursday brings improvement, with skies cloudy at times and only generally isolated showers or thunderstorms on the cards.

As for the tides, today’s highs fall at 10:14 AM and 11:37 PM, with lows at 5:36 PM and 4:46 AM tomorrow. The sun sets this evening at 6:30 PM and rises again at 5:26 AM tomorrow. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Tareek Matthews.
