By Belize Live News Staff: A routine police patrol in Orange Walk Town has ended with a man being charged for drug possession.
The Belize Police Department reports that on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at about 3:45 p.m., officers patrolling along Progress Street stopped a man and advised him that he would be searched for illegal drugs, firearms, or ammunition.
According to police, during the search the man was asked to open his left hand, where officers spotted a small folded piece of paper. Inside, police said, were four pieces of a white substance believed to be crack cocaine. He was cautioned, informed of his rights, and taken into custody.
At the Orange Walk Police Station, the man was identified as 37-year-old Dario Ezequiel Camara, a construction worker of San Pablo Village, Orange Walk District. The suspected drugs were weighed at 0.9 grams before being sealed and labelled for evidence.
Police went on to charge Camara with possession of controlled drugs. He opted to remain silent.
It is worth noting that Camara, like anyone facing a charge, is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty before the court.
