Eluide Miller confirms he will contest Belize City mayoral convention

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize City Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller has moved to clear the air, confirming that he intends to participate in the upcoming Belize City mayoral convention and denying reports that he was told to step aside.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Miller addressed what he described as a matter that had been the subject of considerable discussion in recent days. He was firm in setting the record straight. “I was never instructed or encouraged by the Prime Minister and Party Leader, Hon. John Briceño, to withdraw from the Belize City Mayoral Convention,” he said.

The Deputy Mayor explained that he had met with the Party Leader for what he called a candid discussion about the upcoming municipal elections, including Belize City. As part of that conversation, the two spoke about his intentions regarding the convention. Miller said he subsequently informed the Prime Minister that he fully intends to participate, and that the Prime Minister was very respectful of his decision.

With that, Miller made his position clear. He said he remains committed to taking part in the upcoming municipal convention, which the National Executive of the People’s United Party has agreed will be held for Belize City.

Looking ahead, the Deputy Mayor said he is eager to engage with party delegates throughout the process and, together with residents, to continue the conversation about the future of the city. He closed his statement by thanking the public and offering a blessing for Belize City and the nation.
