Who made it and who is out at the World Cup

By Belize Live News Staff: The wait is over, and the dust has settled on the group stage. The lineup for the World Cup Round of 32 is now confirmed, and Belizean football lovers have had front-row seats to all the action.

With 48 teams in the mix this year, qualifiers have come from across the world. Here is the breakdown by confederation.

In South America, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Paraguay all advanced, while Uruguay were knocked out. Over in North America, there was reason for regional cheer as Mexico, the United States, and Canada all moved on, though Curacao, Panama, and Haiti saw their journeys come to an end.

Europe, unsurprisingly, sent a powerhouse group into the knockouts, including France, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Bosnia, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Croatia, Portugal, England, and Austria. Falling short were Scotland, Czechia, and Turkey.

From Asia, it was Japan and Australia who carried the torch forward, as Iran, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, and Jordan all exited. Africa, meanwhile, was a standout, with Ivory Coast, Morocco, South Africa, Cape Verde, Egypt, Senegal, Algeria, Ghana, and DR Congo all progressing, and only Tunisia missing out. From Oceania, New Zealand were eliminated.

For fans here in Belize, the knockout rounds carry extra flavour. Seeing CONCACAF neighbours Mexico, the USA, and Canada still flying high is a source of pride, while the rise of smaller nations like Cape Verde keeps alive the dream that any country, with enough heart, can compete on the world stage.

Now the real drama begins. In the Round of 32, it is win or go home, and every match will be must-watch television. So which side do you fancy to lift the trophy? Let us know in the comments.
