"A most serious matter": Church Senator speaks out

By Belize Live News Staff: Church Senator Louis Wade Jr. is not mincing words when it comes to the handling of money meant for Belize’s national security.

In a pointed public statement, the Senator, who represents the country’s churches and is also a well-known media personality, weighed in on the growing concerns surrounding government spending tied to the nation’s security forces. Wade made clear that, in his view, the matter is a grave one that should not be brushed aside.

“When you mess with the money that should go to our National Security, this becomes a most serious matter,” Wade wrote, warning that mishandling such funds puts the entire nation at risk.

The Senator pointed directly to the institutions tasked with keeping the country safe, the Belize Defence Force, the Coast Guard, and the Police Department, and raised concern over the resources and supplies those forces depend on to carry out their duties. He urged Belizeans to pay close attention to the issue.

“Belize, do not take these accusations and revelations lightly,” Wade said, calling on the public to recognise the seriousness of what is at stake.

Wade’s intervention adds a moral and institutional voice to a matter that has drawn considerable public attention in recent weeks. As the Senator representing the churches, a seat often described as a conscience for the nation, his decision to speak out underscores the weight many are placing on the issue.

It is worth noting that the underlying matters Wade is referring to remain the subject of ongoing review, and no findings of wrongdoing have been established at this stage. The Senator’s comments reflect his own strongly held views and his appeal for the country to take the concerns seriously.
