By Belize Live News Staff: Families planning Father’s Day outings across Belize may need a backup plan as weather conditions become more active across the country.
An approaching tropical wave is expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered showers, and thunderstorms throughout the day, especially across northern and coastal Belize.
Weather officials have issued a Strong Thunderstorm Watch, warning that some storms could bring heavy rain, dangerous lightning, and strong gusty winds.
While the entire country could see periods of rain, forecasters believe northern districts and coastal communities have the greatest chance of experiencing significant thunderstorm activity.
Despite the unsettled conditions, temperatures will remain warm, with highs reaching the upper 80s and low 90s across much of Belize.
Marine conditions remain moderate, with waves between four and six feet, although boaters should remain alert for sudden changes in weather near thunderstorms.
Looking ahead to Monday, forecasters expect cloudy intervals and a few showers to continue, particularly over southern Belize.
The National Meteorological Service is encouraging residents to stay informed throughout the day and avoid open areas during thunderstorms.
Although no tropical cyclone development is expected, today’s tropical wave is a reminder that the rainy season is becoming more active.
For now, Belizeans celebrating Father’s Day should be prepared for a mix of sunshine, clouds, and the possibility of rain at almost any point during the day.
