By Belize Live News Staff: If it feels hotter than usual, you’re not imagining it.
Belize is in the middle of another stretch of hot, dry weather, and forecasters say inland communities could see temperatures climb as high as 98 degrees Fahrenheit today.
The National Meteorological Service has issued a heat alert, warning residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activity during the afternoon, when temperatures are expected to peak.
While most of the country will enjoy sunny skies and little chance of rain, the heat is expected to be the main weather story heading into the weekend.
Coastal areas will experience highs around 90 degrees, but inland districts will feel the greatest impact of the current weather pattern. Overnight conditions are expected to remain warm, with only a slight chance of isolated showers in southern Belize.
The forecast also calls for similar conditions on Saturday, meaning Belizeans planning outdoor activities should prepare for another day of sunshine and above-average temperatures.
The good news is that no tropical systems are expected to threaten Belize during the next 48 hours, allowing residents to focus on staying cool rather than watching the tropics.
Whether you’re working outdoors, heading to the cayes, or simply running errands, today is one of those days when keeping a bottle of water nearby may be one of the smartest decisions you make.
