By Belize Live News Staff: The race to become the People’s United Party’s next mayoral candidate for Belize City is officially underway.
After weeks of speculation, Belize City councillors Allan Pollard and Eluide Miller have both publicly declared their intention to seek the PUP nomination for mayor ahead of the 2027 municipal elections.
Pollard launched his campaign with a polished promotional video highlighting his deep roots in Belize City and his years of public service. Miller, meanwhile, unveiled his candidacy by posting a photograph showing the support of seven fellow city councillors, signaling that he already has significant backing within the council.
Both men enter the race with experience in local government. Pollard has served as an elected city councillor for eight years, while Miller has completed two years on the Belize City Council.
Political observers note that both candidates enjoy support from influential figures within the PUP, setting the stage for what could become one of the party’s most closely watched internal contests.
Applications for the nomination process are scheduled to close on June 19, although party officials have not yet announced a date for a mayoral convention.
The outcome will be significant not only for the PUP but also for Belize City residents, as the successful candidate will likely become one of the frontrunners in the 2027 municipal elections.
As the campaign begins, many Belizeans will be asking an important question: Do Allan Pollard and Eluide Miller have what it takes to lead Belize’s largest municipality?
Belize City continues to face major challenges, including crime, infrastructure concerns, traffic congestion, sanitation issues, flooding, economic development, and neighborhood revitalization. Voters will be looking closely at which candidate offers the strongest vision, leadership skills, and ability to deliver results.
With the contest now officially underway, attention will turn to how both candidates present their plans for the future of Belize City and whether they can convince party supporters that they are the right person to lead the municipality into the next decade.
