By Belize Live News Staff: As Tropical Storm Cristina churns through the Pacific Ocean near Central America, Belizeans can breathe a sigh of relief as forecasters say the system poses no immediate threat to the country.
The storm became the latest named system of the eastern Pacific hurricane season and is expected to bring periods of heavy rain to Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala over the coming days.
Weather experts warn that some areas could receive up to a foot of rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding and mudslides.
The development of Cristina serves as a reminder that tropical activity is increasing throughout the region as both the Pacific and Atlantic hurricane seasons become more active.
Belize is currently experiencing a wetter weather pattern, with local forecasters predicting showers and thunderstorms across portions of the country. However, these conditions are unrelated to Tropical Storm Cristina.
At the same time, another Pacific storm, Tropical Storm Boris, is moving near Mexico and is expected to make landfall there.
Despite the increased activity in the Pacific, Belize remains outside the forecast path of both systems.
Emergency officials still encourage residents to stay informed throughout the hurricane season and ensure preparedness plans are in place, even when storms are not directly threatening Belize.
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs through November 30, making continued vigilance important for all Belizeans in the months ahead.
