By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s education system has taken a major step toward data-driven reform with the launch of the National Student Assessment System pilot.
More than 20,000 students from Standards One, Four, and Six completed assessments in Language Arts and Mathematics as part of the first phase of the new national framework.
The Ministry of Education says the goal is not to punish students or rank schools, but to better understand how children are performing at key stages of primary education.
Officials say all student information collected through the assessment will remain confidential and will be used only for educational planning and research.
The nationwide pilot forms part of the Government’s Belize Compact initiative and is expected to lead to full implementation in primary schools by 2027. Secondary schools are expected to follow in 2028.
Once fully rolled out, the system will assess student performance in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Belizean Studies, and 21st-century skills.
Education officials say the new system will give policymakers, teachers, and parents a stronger foundation for improving student achievement across Belize.
