By Belize Live News Staff: As discussions continue regarding a boundary review involving Sittee River and Hopkins, leaders in Sittee River are calling for calm, cooperation and mutual respect between the two neighboring communities.
The Sittee River Village Council issued a statement highlighting the importance of the review process while emphasizing that it should not be viewed as a dispute between villages.
Council members noted that Sittee River has evolved into a diverse and growing community that has welcomed people from across Belize and around the world for generations.
They argued that clearly established boundaries are essential for responsible development, helping local authorities plan for roads, utilities, environmental protection, land use and public services.
At the same time, the council acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Sittee River and Hopkins and stressed that both communities have successfully coexisted as neighbors for many years.
Village leaders expressed hope that regardless of the final outcome of the review, the process will strengthen understanding and cooperation between the two communities rather than create unnecessary tension.
The council said it remains committed to working collaboratively with residents, stakeholders and neighboring communities as the review moves forward.
For now, local leaders say the focus should remain on development, good governance and preserving the positive relationship that has existed between Sittee River and Hopkins for generations.
