Authorities say Adrian Gerald Banner Jr., 29, sustained life-changing injuries after crashing near Roaring Creek between miles 52 and 53. Police responding to the accident found Banner suffering from a dismembered right leg along with injuries to his arms, chin and head.

Investigators say Banner had been riding a black Lifan dirt bike westbound when he attempted to pass three vehicles. As he tried returning to his lane approaching a curve, he allegedly lost control and collided into an iron railing.

The impact left the motorcycle extensively damaged while emergency personnel rushed Banner to the Western Regional Hospital. A medico-legal form was issued as investigations into the accident continue.
