Young BDF volunteer’s death linked to cardiac condition, examination finds

By Belize Live News Staff: Medical officials have concluded their examination into the sudden death of Jaime Glenn Garcia, confirming that the 25-year-old Belize Defence Force (BDF) volunteer died as a result of a serious heart condition.

Garcia passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026. A post mortem examination was later carried out on Friday, April 24th at 9:00 a.m.

At the conclusion of the examination, the certified cause of death was determined to be sudden cardiac death due to infective myopericarditis, with obesity listed as a contributing factor.

Infective myopericarditis is a condition involving inflammation of the heart muscle and surrounding tissue, which can lead to fatal complications if not detected in time.

Garcia’s body was identified by his brother-in-law, Amir Munoz, age 46, a Belizean mason of the same community. The identification was made in the presence of police and medical personnel.

The case underscores the importance of awareness surrounding underlying health conditions, particularly those affecting the heart, even among younger individuals. The matter has been classified as a medically explained death.
