Fuel hike threatens to deflate Easter holiday spending

By Belize Live News Staff: The sudden spike in fuel prices is doing more than just draining gas tanks—it’s threatening to drain the local economy this Easter. With Premium hitting $14.62 and Regular at $13.82, the cost of moving people and goods across Belize has just become a lot more painful.

Economists warn that the impact will be felt far beyond the gas station. Higher fuel costs inevitably lead to “price creep” in public transportation and food distribution. For Belizeans already struggling with the high cost of living, this 80-to-86-cent increase is a heavy blow to the traditional holiday spirit.

While the highways usually bustle with activity this time of year, many are now forced to choose between reaching their destination or having enough left over for fish and cross buns.

As the midnight deadline approaches, the mood across the country is one of frustration, highlighting Belize’s continued struggle with volatile global energy costs.
