Gun attack in Punta Gorda leaves one teen dead, another injured

By Belize Live News Staff: A late-evening shooting in Punta Gorda Town has left one teenager dead and another injured, police confirmed.

Reports indicate that two young men were walking along Cero Road Wednesday night when they were suddenly ambushed by an armed gunman who opened fire.

The victims were identified as 17-year-old Jimmy Cus and 18-year-old Darwin Meraz, both residents of Punta Gorda Town.

Cus was fatally shot and later pronounced dead at the Punta Gorda Community Hospital, while Meraz was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police recovered several expended shells from the scene and are continuing their investigation into the deadly attack.

Authorities have not yet identified a suspect in the shooting.
