Bicycle rider killed in broad daylight Dean Street shooting

By Belize Live News Staff: A man who was riding his bicycle through a Belize City neighborhood was shot and killed Thursday afternoon after a confrontation turned deadly.

Police say the incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on March 5 near the intersection of Dean Street and Amara Avenue.

According to investigators, the victim, Edward Saldano, had been riding his bicycle along Amara Avenue before briefly stopping to speak with a female near St. Ignacio’s Primary School.

Shortly after continuing along his route, Saldano encountered a man known to him. Police say the encounter escalated into a verbal dispute.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly produced a firearm. A struggle reportedly followed as both men fought for control of the weapon.

The suspect eventually gained control and fired multiple shots, critically injuring Saldano.

The victim was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.

Crime Scene investigators processed the scene and collected several expended shells as the investigation continues.
