By Belize Live News Staff: An arrest has been made following a fatal road traffic accident that left a Belizean police officer dead along the highway between miles 30 and 31.

The deadly crash happened on Friday night, January 30th, 2026, at approximately 7:25 p.m., and claimed the life of Marcos Acal, 48, a Police Special Constable from San Roman Village, Stann Creek District.

Police on Saturday arrested and charged Juan Carlos Estrada Prado, 30, a Guatemalan national from Santa Cruz Village, Guatemala, in relation to the incident.
