Independent senators say STOP to telecom monopoly

By  Belize Live News Staff: Independent senators are signaling strong resistance to any attempt to consolidate Belize’s telecommunications sector under a single dominant operator.

In a joint statement, the senators said their constitutional duty and commitment to social justice require them to oppose decisions that could undermine competition and transparency. They emphasized that any acquisition by BTL must be put on hold until all relevant information is fully disclosed and independently assessed.

The senators also made clear that they will exercise their powers collectively to block what they view as an unjustified and harmful move. They warned that secrecy and rushed decision-making have no place in matters affecting national infrastructure and public trust.

The statement marks a significant escalation in opposition to proposed telecom consolidation, adding political weight to growing concerns from business groups and unions.
