By Belize Live News Staff: Belize City police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a Friday night shooting near Social Lounge that caused panic among patrons and resulted in three men being taken into custody.
Gunshots rang out around 8:05 p.m., raising alarm among staff and customers. A police officer posted at the club said several loud gunshots echoed from the Northern Highway before a dark vehicle sped away toward Haulover Bridge.
Less than an hour later, police located a brown Kia Sportage without plates, believed to be in the area shortly after the shooting. Three occupants were inside the SUV.
One of the men, a 40-year-old mechanic, was found with a licensed 9mm Glock pistol and 25 live rounds. While the gun is licensed, investigators are working to determine whether it was discharged, or whether the occupants witnessed or were involved in the incident.
Scenes of Crime technicians recovered four expended 9mm shells along the highway. No injuries have been reported, and no motive has been established.
The investigation now focuses on:
Tracing the movement of the unlicensed vehicle
Determining whether the detained men are linked to the shooting
Reviewing surveillance footage along the Northern Highway corridor
Police say more information will be released as the investigation progresses.
