By Belize Live News Staff: A 19-year-old man from Orange Walk Town is in police custody pending charges of Rape after his ex-girlfriend reported he held her captive for two days, repeatedly raping her.
According to police reports, the female victim visited the suspect’s apartment near the center of town on Wednesday, October 22. When she attempted to leave, the suspect allegedly prevented her by throwing her onto a bed multiple times.
The victim stated that her ex-boyfriend told her she could not leave unless she had sex with him. She reported that when she began to cry, he slapped her repeatedly. Fearing for her safety and believing compliance would lead to her release, she allowed him to have intercourse with her.
The report details that the victim was held against her will from Wednesday until Friday, October 24. During this time, she managed to make a brief call to a friend before the suspect snatched her phone and turned it off. She also reported being denied food, water, and medication, despite pleading that she was unwell.
An attempt to escape on Thursday afternoon was thwarted when the suspect allegedly dragged her back into the room from the apartment door. The pattern of threats and sexual assault in exchange for freedom reportedly continued until police arrived at the apartment on Friday morning.
Officers rescued the victim and detained the suspect. Police have reportedly obtained video footage related to the incident.
