UN marks 80 years; Belize reflects on unity, growth, and sustainable development

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize yesterday joined the international community in commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, honoring the organization’s decades-long work promoting peace, human rights, and development.

The event took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Belmopan, where students participated in an education fair designed to teach about the UN’s global impact and Belize’s role as a proud member since gaining independence.

UNDP’s Wonjun Bae highlighted the organization’s ongoing partnership with Belize, emphasizing initiatives that support sustainable growth and innovation:

“Our projects include climate change response, renewable energy, and digitization, all aimed at improving the daily lives of Belizeans.”

Denis Maldonado, of the Sustainable Development Unit, underscored the nation’s commitment to achieving the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030:

“Belize continues to push forward on social, environmental, and economic goals, showing progress that benefits not just the environment, but the entire society.”

As part of the global observance, the fair celebrated both past achievements and future aspirations, a reminder that Belize remains an active partner in building a fairer, greener, and more united world.
