Wildlife officials recover jaguar killed in suspected road accident near Burrell Boom

By Belize Live News Staff: A jaguar was killed in a suspected vehicle collision along the Burrell Boom Road on Monday night, prompting an immediate response from the Belize Tapir Project, Belize Forest Department, and The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center.

The carcass was secured following reports from members of the public and the Good Samaritan who remained on-site until wildlife officers arrived. The Belize Tapir Project thanked the community for their vigilance and the Burrell Boom Police for their assistance in protecting the animal’s remains.

A necropsy will be carried out to determine the precise cause of death, and researchers will use the opportunity to collect vital scientific data to strengthen ongoing studies on Belize’s jaguar population and wildlife crossings.

Officials praised the quick response from citizens and urged continued support for wildlife safety awareness, especially along roads that intersect with forest corridors.
