Taxi driver accused of touching female passenger granted $6,000 bail

By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize City taxi driver accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger is out on bail following his arraignment on Monday afternoon.

Herbert G. Taylor, 51, a resident of Lacroix Boulevard, appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Deborah Rogers in Court #1, where he was charged with a single count of sexual assault.

The accusation stems from an incident on September 9, 2025, during which Taylor allegedly inappropriately touched a woman’s leg while dropping her off in his cab. In court, Taylor pleaded not guilty, firmly stating, “I never touched her on her leg.”

Bail was set at $6,000 with two sureties of $3,000 each, and came with strict conditions: Taylor must remain at least 100 yards away from the alleged victim, refrain from contacting witnesses, and report weekly to the Mahogany Street Police Station every Tuesday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Taylor is expected to return to court on December 12, 2025, when the case continues.
