By Belize Live News Staff: The Judicial Education Institute (JEI) of the Senior Courts of Belize, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is set to host a specialized Training Workshop on Judicial Ethics later this month.
The two-day workshop, taking place on September 23–24, 2025, at the Senior Courts, will convene judicial officers for intensive training on maintaining and advancing ethical standards in Belize’s judiciary.
Chief Justice Honourable Mde. Louise Esther Blenman welcomed the initiative, stressing that the program will reinforce public trust in the courts and strengthen judicial independence.
Participants will examine ethical principles grounded in the Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct, international anti-corruption frameworks, and Belize’s updated Judicial Code of Ethics. The program will also address contemporary challenges, including the role of artificial intelligence, digital communication, and social media in shaping judicial integrity.
The training will feature contributions from renowned international, regional, and local jurists, promoting knowledge exchange and comparative learning. Practical sessions will include case-based exercises to apply ethical principles to real-world judicial dilemmas.
By combining theory with practice, the JEI aims to ensure the judiciary is well-prepared to address emerging challenges while fostering gender equality in access to justice. The initiative underscores Belize’s commitment to upholding the highest levels of judicial ethics and aligning with international standards.
