Port of Belize, BCCI hold talks on service improvements

Contributed: Senior leadership of the Port of Belize met this week with the Board of Directors of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) to address ongoing operational challenges and explore strategies to enhance efficiency at the country’s main port.

Ambassador Lynn Young, Chairman of the Port’s Board, alongside Kevin Castillo, Chairman of the Operations Committee, engaged in dialogue with the Chamber on ways to strengthen port reliability and competitiveness.

Ambassador Young noted the Port’s central role in driving Belize’s economy and emphasized the Board’s commitment to improving daily operations while planning for long-term modernization. Castillo added that the Operations Committee is reviewing measures to streamline processes and improve customer service to better align with the needs of businesses.

Port of Belize CEO Arturo Vasquez acknowledged recent service disruptions linked to overdue accounts exceeding one million dollars owed by one agent. He confirmed that the matter has since been resolved.

BCCI Chairman Giacomo Sanchez welcomed the discussions, stressing the importance of reliable port services for the competitiveness of Belizean businesses and expressing readiness to continue working with the Port’s leadership.

Both sides agreed to keep communication open and to continue collaboration as the Port advances modernization initiatives.
