By Belize Live News Staff: Police have identified 25-year-old Sergio Andino of San Ignacio Town as the intruder killed during a violent home invasion early this morning.
The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. today, Thursday, August 14, when police responded to reports of a break-in at a residence in the village. Upon arrival, officers found Andino lying motionless inside the home with apparent chop wounds to his body.
Investigations reveal that a 70-year-old woman, 65-year-old woman, and 57-year-old man were asleep when two male intruders, one armed with a handgun, the other with a machete, forced their way in and attacked them.
A struggle broke out between the male resident and the assailants. One of the intruders fled, while the 65-year-old woman managed to wrestle the machete from the attacker inside the house. Fearing for her family’s lives, she used the weapon, inflicting injuries on the suspect.
The injured intruder was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The family members sustained various injuries and were issued medical forms for treatment. Police continue to search for the second suspect.
