Shantell Williams sentenced to 6 years for killing common-law husband

By Belize Live News Staff: Shantell Williams was sentenced to six years, six months, and 24 days in prison on Wednesday after being found guilty of manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of her common-law husband, 39-year-old Louis Aldolphus. The sentence was delivered with visible emotion from Williams, who wept as the judgment was read in court.

The incident occurred on August 2, 2022, after Williams reportedly confronted Aldolphus over a message she discovered from another woman. The message reportedly suggested Aldolphus was planning to meet the woman and bring her an umbrella—something Williams interpreted as evidence of infidelity. During the confrontation, Williams claimed Aldolphus grabbed her aggressively, prompting her to reach for a knife and stab him.

Williams was convicted on March 31st following a trial by jury. In addition to her prison sentence, she was ordered to undergo anger management counseling. She will be eligible for parole after serving half of her sentence.

The case drew attention as another example of domestic disputes turning deadly, and the court acknowledged the complex emotional and psychological dynamics involved.
