By Belize Live News Staff: Four-term Mayor Earl Trapp Jr. has stirred up a firestorm after renaming the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Hall the “Earl Trapp Building.”
Photos of the newly installed sign have gone viral online, igniting a fierce debate in the twin towns. Supporters say it’s a deserved nod to a mayor who has led for over a decade. But critics aren’t buying it, accusing Trapp of political self-glorification while still in office.
“Why name a building after yourself while you’re still collecting a paycheck from the same office?” asked one resident on Facebook. Others argue it should’ve been a decision for the people, not the politician.
The Town Council has stayed silent so far, leaving questions swirling about how and why the decision was made.
Is it a bold legacy move or an ego trip? For now, the Earl Trapp Building is both a monument and a mirror, reflecting a community divided.
