Teen speaks out after Said "Badi" Guerra granted bail: “I’m traumatized, and he’s free”

By Belize Live News Staff: The 16-year-old victim at the center of multiple sex-related charges against former Benque Viejo Mayor and ex-Ambassador to Cuba, Said Badi Guerra, has delivered a gut-wrenching message to the public and the justice system after Guerra was granted bail.

Speaking with media alongside his family, the teenager detailed the physical and emotional trauma he continues to endure. The teen suffered chipped teeth, bruises, abrasions, and a busted lip—injuries he says are a result of his encounter with Guerra, who is a lecturer at the school he attends.

“I never gave him consent,” the minor said. “I feel violated. I’m scared, I’m nervous, and I don’t feel safe knowing he’s out on bail.”

Guerra was charged with four counts of sexual assault, one count of harm, and one count of procuring defilement by threats. Despite the serious accusations, Guerra was granted bail following his arraignment in the Benque Magistrate’s Court.

The victim says the decision to release Guerra has left him unsettled. “I’m not happy with what happened this morning. I wanted justice. Now I’m scared to go back to school because what if I see him there?”

He also questioned the court’s decision not to remand Guerra to prison. “They didn’t take him to jail… I feel really insecure because what if he goes back and tries to do the same thing or even worse?”

The incident has sparked public outcry and renewed calls for stronger protections for minors and survivors of sexual abuse. The Belize Police Department says the investigation remains ongoing.
