Flooding closes Coastal Plains Highway to small vehicles

By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) has issued a warning today, June 21st, that the Coastal Plains Highway is currently impassable for small vehicles due to heavy rainfall and flooding in the past 24 hours.

The Manatee Bridge, Corn House Creek Bridge approaches, and two concrete floodways are under a significant amount of water, although levels are rapidly receding. MIDH maintenance teams have been deployed to monitor the situation and carry out necessary remedial works.

Motorists are advised to use the Hummingbird Highway as an alternative route when traveling south. Additionally, drivers are urged to exercise caution, adhere to posted speed limits, and prioritize safety by wearing seatbelts, avoiding speeding, and refraining from drinking and driving.

The MIDH will continue to provide updates on the situation throughout the day. Stay tuned to Belize Live News for further developments on this ongoing situation.
