By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Tax Service Department has issued a public notice naming dozens of businesses and individuals across Belize who owe substantial amounts in unpaid taxes. The announcement, made under Section 64A of the Tax Administration and Procedure Act and its 2021 amendments, highlights the government’s push for greater accountability and revenue collection.
The list includes a wide range of businesses from Belize City, Belmopan, San Pedro, Placencia, and Stann Creek, with tax arrears ranging from just under $7,000 to over $1.3 million. Industries represented include construction, retail, entertainment, funeral services, legal services, and even environmental products.
Topping the list is Plexar Capital LLC, based in Stann Creek, which owes $1,364,096.08 in Business Tax and PAYE. This is followed by Eco Friendly Solutions Limited, reportedly owing $855,056.79, and Marine & Services Limited, which has outstanding arrears of $760,019.11.
Notably, businesses involved in public-facing services—such as supermarkets, restaurants, and media production—also appear, including Bosco Supermarket, Smoqiz Bistro, and Denver Fairweather T/A 13 Productions.
The notice serves as a stern reminder that tax compliance remains a priority for the Government of Belize as it seeks to shore up revenues amid continued economic pressures.
The Belize Tax Service emphasized that under current regulations, businesses are expected to meet their tax obligations or face enforcement measures. The department added that continued failure to comply may result in legal action, including asset forfeiture and penalties.
