Former Minister Ralph Fonseca dies at 75

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is mourning the loss of one of its most influential political strategists and public figures. Ralph Fonseca, the former People’s United Party (PUP) Area Representative for Belize Rural Central, died this morning around 3:00 a.m. He was 75 years old.

Fonseca was a central figure in the PUP during the 1998 to 2008 era, when Rt. Hon. Said Musa served as Prime Minister. Known for his sharp political instincts and firm grasp of economic matters, Fonseca held several senior posts, including Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment.

He played a pivotal role in national policymaking and was often seen as one of the principal architects of the government’s economic strategy during his time in office.

Though his career was not without controversy, Fonseca’s impact on Belizean politics remains undeniable. His passing marks the end of an era for many within the party and across the political landscape.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
