Two vehicles of interest identified in Belmopan shooting

By Belize Live News Staff: Police say video footage has led them to two vehicles of interest as they investigate a shooting that injured a 19 year old woman in Belmopan.

The incident happened late Tuesday night at an apartment on Chi’lam Ha Street in the Maya Mopan area.

ASP Stacy Smith said police were alerted shortly before 1am on Thursday.

“What has been gathered so far is that she and others were at home inside their residence when a male person knocked on the door, claiming to be police and requesting for it to be opened. When the door was not opened, the house was fired upon, and this resulted in her injury,” Smith said.

The woman was hit in both thighs, her lower body, right shoulder and left elbow. She remains in stable condition at the Western Regional Hospital.

Smith said footage from the Public Safety Monitoring Unit identified two vehicles of interest, and that information is being pursued.

Investigators recovered 34 spent shells, including 9mm and .223 rounds, along with seven slugs.

Police believe the gunmen were after another person living at the residence. Three men were reportedly inside at the time.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Belmopan Police.
