By Belize Live News Staff: An elderly Trial Farm mother says she lives in fear in her own home.
The 63 year old, who is blind, told police her adult son often causes trouble, including stealing and damaging her property and threatening to beat and kill her.
She said she has asked him to move out several times, but he refuses. She also said he does not contribute to the household, and that she and her husband agree he should leave.
The latest incident happened early Wednesday morning, when she said her son became angry after she asked him to help his father change a tire. He allegedly threatened her, and she locked herself in her bedroom for safety.
A social worker from the Mental Health Department brought the matter to police, who recorded her statement.
She has been advised to apply to the Family Court for an Occupation Order, which can require a person to leave a home.
If you or an elderly person you know is experiencing abuse at home, contact the police, the Family Court or the Department of Human Services for help.
