By Belize Live News Staff: Boat operators and fishers should take care on the water today.
The Met Service has issued a small craft caution, warning that winds may become gusty during heavy showers or thunderstorms, producing locally rough seas.
Seas are choppy, with east winds of 5 to 15 knots and waves of 3 to 5 feet.
The caution comes alongside an excessive rainfall watch, with up to 2 to 4 inches of rain per day or more possible over the next couple of days.
A trough of low pressure is driving the wet weather. Rain began over coastal and northern areas overnight and is expected to spread to most of the country today.
The outlook for Friday night and Saturday calls for continued cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms over most areas.
Tides today include a low at 8:20am and a high at 2:16pm. The sun rises at 5:46am and sets at 5:30pm.
There is no tropical threat. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the region in the next 48 hours.
Stay safe and avoid unnecessary trips out to sea.
