By Belize Live News Staff: A missing licence plate caught the attention of Orange Walk police, and it led to more than just a warning.
Officers patrolling Staines Alley on Monday evening stopped a black Toyota RAV4 because no plate was displayed. The driver produced the plate when asked, but told police she did not have a driver’s licence.
A closer look also revealed the vehicle had no insurance sticker.
The driver, Amilet Patricia Mendez, 27, was arrested and taken to the Orange Walk Police Station, and her SUV was impounded.
She was formally charged on Monday with driving without a valid driver’s licence and using a vehicle without third party risk insurance. She chose to remain silent when cautioned.
Police are reminding motorists that driving without a licence and insurance is against the law and puts other road users at risk.
