By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans are being urged to remain vigilant as the National Meteorological Service has issued an Excessive Rainfall Watch for coastal and southern areas of the country.
According to the morning forecast issued at 6:00 a.m. today, September 23, moist and unstable conditions continue to prevail over the region.
Forecasters say there is the potential for heavy rainfall of between two and four inches per day, particularly over coastal and southern areas during the next few days.
Today will be cloudy with sunny breaks, with some showers and thunderstorms expected mainly over coastal and northern districts this morning. Some light rain is also expected over southern Belize.
Shower activity should decrease somewhat this afternoon, although a few showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop over inland areas.
Tonight, mostly cloudy conditions are expected, with showers and thunderstorms developing over southern areas initially before shifting toward the coast later.
A Small Craft Caution is also in effect due to the possibility of gusty winds and locally rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms.
Winds will be from the east to southeast at 5 to 15 knots, with waves between two and four feet.
Temperatures will reach 88 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 93 degrees inland and 80 degrees in the hills.
The wet weather is expected to continue Thursday, with showers and thunderstorms forecast over most areas.
No tropical cyclone formation is expected over the region during the next 48 hours.
