Leaders honour George Price 15 years after his passing

By Belize Live News Staff: National leaders and representatives gathered in Belize City to pay tribute to the Right Honourable George Cadle Price as Belize marked 15 years since the passing of the Father of the Nation.

The National Service Day remembrance included the laying of wreaths at Price’s gravesite at Lord’s Ridge Cemetery.

Among those represented during the official wreath laying were the Governor General, Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Leader of the Opposition, Mayor of Belize City, National Celebrations Commission and the Price family.

Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar Panton said she joined the ceremony to remember Price’s life and legacy.

Price played a central role in Belize’s movement toward Independence and became the country’s first Prime Minister when Belize attained Independence on September 21, 1981.

The ceremony took place during the September Celebrations period as Belize prepares to mark 45 years of Independence.

National Service Day is observed in remembrance of Price and encourages Belizeans to honour his legacy through service to their communities.
