By Belize Live News Staff: BELMOPAN, Belize, September 15, 2026: Nearly 16,000 public sector employees are expected to have received an 8 percent salary adjustment by the end of the current fiscal year, Prime Minister John Briceño says.
The adjustment applies to public servants as well as teachers, police officers, soldiers and members of the Belize Coast Guard.
Briceño said the annual value of the salary increase is approximately $112 million.
He highlighted the adjustment during the affordability section of the State of the Nation Address as evidence that Government is responding to the rising cost of living.
The Prime Minister said households continue to face pressure from higher consumer prices and acknowledged that many Belizeans are struggling with the cost of goods and services.
He linked the public sector salary adjustment with other relief measures, including minimum wage increases, electricity tax relief, transportation subsidies and GST-free shopping periods.
Briceño said Government will continue looking for additional ways to reduce the financial pressure on Belizean families as global prices remain elevated.
