Benque House of Culture marks 25th anniversary with tree planting celebration

By Belize Live News Staff: The Benque House of Culture has celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special event focused on culture, history and community.

The September 7 celebration was held under the theme “Rooted in Culture” and included the planting of 25 trees, one for each year of the institution’s work.

The initiative was carried out alongside the Forestry Department’s Greening Belize Initiative, community stakeholders and residents.

The National Institute of Culture and History congratulated the Benque House of Culture on reaching the milestone, with NICH President Albert Vaughan attending the event.

Special recognition was also given to CACHE, the Community of Artists for Cultural and Historical Endeavours, which was organized in 1999 and played a foundational role in the development of the House of Culture.

Over the years, the institution has helped preserve and promote the heritage of Benque Viejo del Carmen while creating space for cultural and historical activities in the community.

The 25 tree planting was intended to represent strong roots, continued growth and a commitment to passing Belizean culture and history on to future generations.
