By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans are being urged to take precautions today as hot and mainly fair weather dominates the forecast, with temperatures expected to reach or exceed 97°F in some northern and western areas.
The National Meteorological Service says a moderate and warm easterly airflow is prevailing across the country, bringing sunny and warm conditions during the day.
Showers or thunderstorms will be generally isolated, although a few more are expected over southern Belize late tonight and into the early morning hours.
The heat will be most intense inland, where temperatures are forecast to climb to 97°F, or 37°C. Coastal areas can expect highs near 90°F, while temperatures in the hills will reach around 84°F.
Because of the extreme heat, a heat alert is in effect. Residents are advised to drink plenty of water and avoid unnecessary outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Marine conditions will be choppy, with easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots and waves ranging from 3 to 5 feet.
Tonight, skies will become partly cloudy to clear, with overnight lows of 83°F along the coast, 74°F inland and 68°F in the hills.
Wednesday is expected to remain mainly fair and warm, with only isolated showers or thunderstorms. Northern areas could see a few additional showers during the afternoon.
No tropical cyclone formation is expected across the region during the next 48 hours.
